So… sketchbooks and sketchbook tours. I don’t know about you, but my sketchbooks are where I mess around and try stuff. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, it’s kind of like life. You know, messy.
So showing off my real, actual sketchbook feels a bit vulnerable. That’s particularly the case when the internet is full of people who somehow manage to create “sketchbooks” full of masterpiece-looking paintings. Spoiler alert: I am not one of those people.
[Side note: I do wonder if those people have a secret book where they actually experiment that they keep private…]
So I say all that to say that across on my YouTube channel I’ve added a second Sketchbook tour of a watercolour sketchbook I used between August 2021 and January 2022.
It starts with a bit of a ‘public service announcement’ about my sketchbook, which is that it really is a sketch-book. It is not a book full of amazing masterpieces, although I do have some lovely finished paintings in there (in my opinion). But there is also me messing around, swatching paints, and experimenting with stuff. I tried out ideas for two of my Skillshare classes in that beautiful book – A Mindful Approach to Practicing Watercolor: Values, Palettes & Brush Control and Watercolor for Beginners: How to Add Depth & Form through Layering and if you’ve taken either class you might recognise the book from some of the lessons!
And the book itself is beautiful – it’s a repurposed old book that the Sketchbook Company converted into a sketchbook.
And if you like that sort of thing, you can see my previous sketchbook tour here, or hop on over to YouTube if you prefer to watch it there.
I hope you enjoy it and feel free to let me know if you’ve got any comments / feedback / suggestions for any other content you’d like to see on my channel (or this blog!)
